Minnesota United signs striker Fanendo Adi to one-year contract

Aug. 28—Minnesota United signed Fanendo Adi to a one-year contract on Friday, and the 30-year-old Nigerian striker will be available to play the Loons’ game at Houston on Saturday night.

The Loons were looking for additions to the roster after striker Ramon Abila was waived two weeks ago and Foster Langsdorf retired.

Adi scored one goal over the past two seasons in Cincinnati and Columbus, but he scored 54 goals in Portland from 2014-18. The 6-foot-4 target man has trained with Minnesota the past few days.

“We’ve had this position open and we think he’s a little bit different than everybody else that we’ve got,” United manager Adrian Heath said. “He’s a very impressive size: you look at him, he’s a huge man, but he’s in really good condition. … We think it’s a really good move for both parties. He wants to get his career back going again.”
